2013 Cabernet

2013 California Cabernet vintage followed the outstanding 2012 vintage with yet another strong performance.  WineSpectator rated wines from Napa 96 points and 91 points from Sonoma.  Robert Parker gave the 2013 vintage a 98 rating – rarefied air for sure.

The 2014 vintage did not come out as well and was rated 91 points by  Robert Parker.  You will find both vintages on the shelves as I write this blog.  I would lean toward the 2013 vintage other things being equal.

Bogle Cabernet 2014

Rated in high 80s by some – price under $10

Winemaker’s Notes – Irresistible vanilla and intriguing black plums lay way to the dense and concentrated wine that is the Cabernet Sauvignon. Deeply extracted and complex dark fruit enhance the full-bodied character, and touches of toasted hazelnut and spicy clove are left by the 12 months of aging in one year old American oak. Ample tannins and an enduring finish will allow this wine to cellar for another 6-8 years, but don’t let anyone say you can’t enjoy it now.

Carmenet Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Winemaker’s Notes- With a dark rich red color, Carmenet Cabernet Sauvignon presents a complex bouquet of berries with hints of chocolate. The palate rounds out with spice and vanilla and ends with a smooth lingering finish.

Carnivor Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 rated in high 80s by some – under $15

Big and bold in style, Carnivor Cabernet offers intense, dark fruit aromas and deep, inky color. A plush, velvety mouthfeel frames rich flavors of dark berries, coffee, mocha and toasted oak, all backed by a distinctive smoothness and a lingering, silky finish.
